MY Ady Gil, illegal video games, the famous spilled coffee lawsuit, Operation Cottage, pigeon-guided missile, the Japanese Schindler's list, and bottlenecks in human history

Today, my last day in uniform, we will examine a few articles before I close up my office for good. Since my home computer is on the fritz, it might be a while before I can make another post, hopefully no more than a week. Today's articles include Project Pigeon, Chiune Sugihara, the Toba Event compared to flood myths and proto-human language, the WWII landing against a nonexistent enemy force, Liebeck v. McDonald's Restaurants, Greek Law 3037/2002, and MY Ady Gil.

War of the Golden Stool, the first email spammer, doord, Mariner 1, Boston Corbett, a beach made of glass, and Endal the super dog

After a week of rough times, dear constant reader, I have finally gotten my final date of wearing the uniform, which will be May 20th. Expect lean posting to continue as I finish my days as and active-duty Marine.

Today, we will examine why we should all hate Gary Thuerk, the Glass Beach at Fort Bragg, a NASA disaster caused by a missing hyphen, a lexicographic typo that appeared in Webster's, a war between the British and the Ashantis over a stool, and the crazy life of the man who killed a presidential assassin.

The railplane, a town of one, Islamic sex therapist, the first porno, a computer you fixed by dropping, bee battle, and February 30th

Sorry for the lack of recent updates; this is a trend that will likely continue for the foreseeable future. I'm ramping up to go on terminal leave as my contract draws closer to expiration, and there are many things to do as I prepare to become a civilian again. On top of that, the date I can finally file for divorce approaches, and there is sudden doubt that this will actually occur. The patience of my only follower is needed as my personal life tumults.

Today, we will examine the career of Dr. Heba Kotb, Le Coucher de la Marie, the ill-designed Apple III, Monowi, Nebraska, the Battle of Tanga, February 30, and the Bennie Railplane.

Toll Bridge War, eating boogers, pigeon photography, the Jafr alien invasion, wife selling, and Mike the Headless Chicken

Today we will look at the Arab version of War of the Worlds, a chicken that lived for years after being beheaded, the English custom of selling a wife for divorce, the war over the toll bridge at Red River, using pigeons for aerial photography, and eating mucus.

Well to Hell, the Toledo War, supermoon, the straw millionaire legend (and a red peper clip), and being hanged, drawn, and quartered

Today, we look at a particularly vicious method of execution, the perigee-syzygy of the Earth-Moon-Sun system, the war between Michigan and Ohio, drilling a borehole all the way to hell, and trading from a simple common object to wealth.

Tiny warship, high-rise with a highway, the Jeopardy!-playing computer, The world's shortest street, and the Voyager gold disks

Today, we take a look at Ebenezer Place, Watson the AI system, the Voyager Golden Records, the smallest ships of the US Navy, and the Gate Tower Building.

Extreme ironing, "republican marraige", The craziest British Commando ever, legally haunted by ghosts, and vagina dentata

Today's post examines French Revolutionary executions, Jack Churchill, extreme ironing, Stambovsky v. Ackley, and the terrifying concept of a vagina with teeth.

  • If you liked Freddie Wong (mentioned in GD#2), then you'll probably enjoy Cardboard Warfare and Cardboard Warfare 1.5.
  • Have you seen the trailer for Dead Island? A Minecrafter made a spoof.
  • One of the oddities I picked up from Portal was a strange fascination with cake. Not cake in general, mind you, but I like seeing video game-themed cakes. Some fo them are so cool it makes me jealous that my beloved mother stuck to either plain white and chocolate mixes or bought them from the grocery store bakery. For example, this Angry Birds cake comes with a slingshot and little frosting birds to shoot. The fact that I'm not much a fan of the game (it's just a cartoony rip-off of good catapult games like Crush the Castle) doesn't make the cake less awesome.
  • While I'm not exactly a huge champion for indie games, I do have a sizable collection of links for flash games I can play at work (take that, stupid taxpayers!). One of my favorite sites is Armor Games, and especially the works of jmtb02 (This Is The Only Level, This Is The Only Level Too, Achievement Unlocked, Achievement Unlocked 2 all have an elephant as the main character). The latest, Elephant Quest is a type of RPG-shooter that is much larger and a lot of fun.
  • Wikipedia humor: WikiProject Antarctica Highways. If you didn't know, WikiProjects are collaborations of editors to improve articles within a certain scope, some more narrow than others.

President's Day fun, testudo, and who really invented the telephone?

Today is President's Day in the US, and I've come into the office on my day off to post for my readers (to be fair, I would have come in anyway, my home computer is unavailable at the moment). We will examine the handedness of presidents, Ronald Reagan's sex appeal, a couple of notable presidential incidents, and the list of fictional presidents as part of the celebration, as well as a common Roman infantry tactic and the Elisha Gray vs. Alexander Bell debate.

  • Manufactoria: assembly-line puzzle game where you have to read, sort, and write programming for robots going through the line. It gets tough pretty quick, unless you have a knack for systems engineering.
  • Do you play Minecraft? If so, you'll probably enjoy this video.
  • Freddie Wong is a Youtube celebrity who posts videos (usually action videos) that he's edited and done stunts for himself. They are a lot of fun, and he maintains a second channel for the tutorials and behind the scenes stuff.
  • A Portal speed run. Whoa. I don't normally watch these, because then I get hyper-jealous, but I'm impressed.
  • This photo isn't so much geeky as it is just plain cool (unless you're a tactical geek).

How coffee relates to computers, turtle races, holidays of the American Revolution, disemvolweling, and sweet pee

Today, we look at a medical condition involving maple syrup, minor holidays associated with the American Revolutionary War, removing vowels from words, Hyper Text Coffee Pot Control Protocol and the Trojan Room coffee pot, and turtle racing.

Military dentists, interactive gravestones, boobquake, and a museum in a porta-potti

The world's most dangerous golf course, @#$%ing Michigan, how to be "niggardly", DHMO, a chicken nuke, and FIRE!!!

Today's post is a tad late, being Sunday. but I came in to work on my day off for my reader (yes, singular, I think I have one follower at the moment). We will examine when two lefts and a right make a left, dihydrogen monoxide, people who take pictures of fire, the Blue Peacock bomb, a golf course featuring a minefield, and how a white guy can get away with saying the word "niggar" without being racist.

Fail-deadly, largest explosions, Soviets on the moon, and a roundhouse kick to the face

Sorry for the delay, folks. I know that my total of zero followers were riveted by my lack of posting over the MLK holiday. Today, we discuss Chuck Norris, secret Soviet moonshots, non-nuclear explosions, and the concept of fail-deadly.

RIP, Dick.

One of my personal heroes, Richard Winters, died on the 2nd at his home in rural Pennsylvania. He was best known as the most famous commander of Easy Company, 506th PIR, whose exploits in France, Belgium, and Germany during World War II were the subject of Band of Brothers. Major Winters was a recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross for the Assault on Brécourt Manor on D-Day, and only did not recieve the Medal of Honor due to a quota system in the 101st Airborne Division. He would have been 92 next month.

The legislation of fruit, Boner Church, Xenu, and bazooka Vespa

Well, that was quite a snowstorm for North Carolina. Gosh, I really don't miss brushing ice off of my car and shovelling my driveway. Anyway, we should have some fun today: armed scooters, Scientology, a church that worships the phallus, and a Supreme Court case about tomatoes.
